Six Sigma Management Institute Military Scholarship
The Six Sigma Management Institute Military Scholarship is intended to provide qualified active duty US military personnel, transitioning soldiers and veterans with the opportunity to greatly improve their credentials, employability, income and job mobility by becoming certified as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (or Green Belt).
As of Jan 29, 2013, the average base salary for a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt was $102,000 (January 2013 data), not including bonuses and benefits. On the same date, there were 17,854 postings for Six Sigma related jobs. A trend analysis clearly shows a sharp increase in the demand for Lean Six Sigma Black Belts over the past several years. Without question, a credible Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification goes a long way toward career development and advancement. In light of these facts, the aim of this scholarship is to make such opportunities available to those that have honorably served in the interests or defense of our great nation. Philanthropically speaking, this is our way of saying: “Thanks for Your Service.”
The standard tuition for the Online MindPro Lean Six Sigma program is $297 per month. Most individuals typically complete the program in 6-8 months; however, some have achieved their certification in as few as 4 months. Given the typical range of completion time (6-8 months), the standard tuition would range from $1,782 to $2,376 (not including a onetime $100 testing fee). Verifiably, this is well below the current industry average.
As a scholarship recipient, your tuition would be $150 per month tuition. The recipient’s contribution would range from $882 to $1,176. For those awarded a Purple Heart, an additional $50 will be added to the scholarship, further reducing the recipients contribution.
MVDC has been allotted 250 scholarships to provide to deserving service men and women. MVDC has not received any promotional consideration for this scholarship as we believe it is great training for in an in demand field.
Why are we doing this?
The team at the Six Sigma Management Institute reached out to MVDC to help spread the word about this scholarship opportunity as a means of giving back. The scholarships are provided by the Six Sigma Management Institute in conjunction with Dr. Mikel J. Harry, co-creator of Six Sigma, national bestselling author and working philanthropist. Dr. Harry, a former US Marine Corps officer, was quoted in an interview as saying: “Trend analysis clearly shows a sharp increase in the demand for Lean Six Sigma Black Belts over the past several years (reference: Google Trends).
Without question, a credible Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification goes a long way toward realizing job placement, higher income, career advancement and job mobility.” He continued by saying: “In light of the facts, the aim of this scholarship is to enhance the job opportunities for those that honorably served in the defense of our great nation." In support of this, Employment Crossing was recently quoted as saying: “Job opportunities in the Black Belt [Lean Six Sigma] profession are high if one is driven by a passion for quality. Future prospectus of these jobs is very high and if you perform well then the sky is the limit.”
