As the military community reels from the elimination of tuition assistance, military scholars are scrambling to pay for school. The cuts affects 201,000 Soldiers and 29,000 Marines, not to mention the Airmen and Sailors who will need to find a way to fund their education, some of which is required for promotions.
We have already put together a list of top colleges and universities that provide great military discounts. You can find that list here.
We realize that you may already be enrolled at some of these educational institutions and still need some help covering expenses. We have put together a list of scholarships for our men and women in uniform to get you through these tough times. We hope this helps you to continue the education you have worked so hard to receive.
The Pat Tillman Foundation: This scholarship is available to veterans and active duty military service members from all branches of the Armed Forces and spouses of service members. The scholarship can be applied to undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate degrees as a full time student at any U.S. accredited institution.
Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Scholarship: The MOPH Scholarship is available to recipients of the Purple Heart, a spouse or widow of a Purple Heart recipient, a Veteran killed in action or a Veteran who died of wounds, a direct descendant of a member of MOPH or a direct descendant of a Veteran killed in action.
Veterans United Scholarship Program requires that applicants have a connection to the US military by being a current active duty service member, a veteran, a spouse of a military member or veteran, a surviving spouse or child of a fallen soldier or a child of a military member or veteran. The scholarship can be used to pursue a post-secondary degree at an accredited college or university.
AMVETS National Scholarship Program for Veterans awards $4,000 over the course of 4 years to awarded students. To be eligible, applicants must be a US Veteran, a US citizen, demonstrate financial need and must agree to allow AMVETS to publicize the scholarship award.
AFCEA Educational Foundation Scholarship is available to U.S. Military Veterans or active duty personnel. AFCEA is a non-profit organization with over 120 locations. Scholarships include Intelligence and Cyber Security Scholarship, Military Personnel and Dependents Scholarship, and Veterans/Disabled Veterans Scholarship.
In addition the above listed scholarships, there are hundreds of scholarships available to military wishing to pursue specified careers, such as the NBCC Foundation Scholarship for military or veterans who wish to purse a counseling career.
