Blue Star Museums
It's hard to believe that Memorial Day is almost here. Memorial Day means the pools are open, grills are fired up and summer is here! But for those of us who know the service and sacrifice of our military and their family it is so much more. It is a weekend set aside to be grateful for our freedoms, that our children were born in the land of the free, and to be indebted to those who earn us the name "home of the brave". For the third consecutive year, it also means free admission to thousands of museums throughout the country for military men, women, and their families.
Blue Star Museums has partnered with thousands of museums that will be offering free admission to military personnel and their families from Memorial Day until Labor Day. Hosted by Blue Star Families, the organization has over 70 chapters and strives to support military families through a variety of initiatives including Blue Star Museums, MilKidz Club and Blue Star Theatres.
The 2013 Blue Star Museum initiative will kick off on May 21 at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Any person holding an active US military ID and up to five families are eligible for free admission. Family members may include a spouse or child, aunts, uncles, grandparents and other extended family members. There is no limit to the number of museums you can visit this summer so check out the full list of participating museums here and spend some quality time checking out your local museums!
